Skilled migrant applicant gets work visa extension, but two-year wait for decision on residency continues

30 August 2020BY Sanela.barac

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has confirmed that Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Residence Visa applications in priority queue will be allocated within two weeks.

So, who can potentially be put in priority queue?

Principal applicants with current occupational registration (where registration is required by immigration instructions) or principal applicants who are paid an hourly rate at or above twice the median wage (from 24 February 2020 this will be NZD $51 per hour or NZD $106,080 a year)

For those not in the priority queue significant delays are likely to continue as the oldest UNALLOCATED skilled residence application from an onshore applicant in the non-priority queue was from January 18, 2019, and December 14, 2018 for an offshore applicant, as at August 24.
